I also forgot to mention something in my first post. Just before the holiday break, I learned that a parent at Autumn's school is deaf. She isn't even able to read lips. This is another motivator for me to learn sign language, who knows how many parents I will meet at my children's school that wont be able to communicate with me unless I know and understand their language. I was tempted to just tap her on the shoulder and tell her who I was and I am learning asl, but I also didn't want her to quickly start signing back at me thinking I knew more than that simple phrase. In the next few weeks I am going to push myself to learn more and more words so I can converse with her.
In the last several days I will admit that I didn't keep up with the signing as much as I hoped. My poor little guy has needed my attention and that is more of a priority to me. However I did review the signs for family relationships, I know words like boy, girl, lady, gentleman, mother, father, in-laws, aunt, uncle and the list goes on. I have also downloaded several apps to my phone which help teach me words, and some simple phrases. Tonight I reviewed some baby signs to start teaching Caleb, for example words like milk, drink, thank you, baby, bye bye, eat and a few more.
